Viji Arasan aka Vijayalakshmi Venkatraman started her dance practice at the age of 6. Her first guru was Smt. Malathi Srinivasan who practiced Kalashetra style. Later got further guidance from guru Smt. Chandrakala Jaganathan disciple of Sri Dhandayuthapani Pillai. She also took classes from Smt Venniradai Nirmala.

She had her arangetram at the age of 12 at Sankardas Kalai Arangam Chennai. This event was presided by Judge Krishnaswamy Reddiar and Smt. Sudharani Raghupathy. Following which she had given many performances solo and dance dramas.

She was given an opportunity by Iyal Isai Nadaka Mandram in a competitive selection judged by Sri.
Dhananjayan to perform solo in Madurai, Ranipettai, Karaikudi and Chennai Mylapore Fine Arts Club. Vijayalakshmi performed in Jayasakthi Rajarajeswari’s 19th Anniversary celebration at Karuppur-Konerirajapuram-Tanjavur celebrations executed by late Manthramurthi Swamigal K. Ramadas. She also performed at Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Kala Samithi Vijayawada -Andhra Pradesh. Third anniversary celebration of Sri Dandayudhapani Bharath Nattiyar Kalalayam at Mylapore fine Arts-Chennai. Also participated in many folk and classical group performances organized by well-known teachers in India.

She was also selected in the children and teen programs by Chennai Doordarshan to perform solo in Kanmani Poonga and Valarum Kalainar.

Her programs have been reviewed by popular press in India – Thinakaran, Thinamani, and The Hindu etc… She has also won many appreciation awards and prizes in India.
